
AIDGLOBAL began the 4th edition of the "Reading Animation" project in the Chibuto District during the second half of July 2017, made possible once more by the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
The initiative, which ended on August 31, had as its primary goal the promotion of reading and the access to books among the local educational community and among pregnant teenagers and recent mothers, towards a Quality Education in Mozambique.
This project was held by Joana Costa, a trainee selected as part of the Inov Contact Program, and Fernanda Antunes, AIDGLOBAL's volunteer through the Organization’s partnership with “Ser Mais Valia”. Association. The activities reinforced the Organization's work in favor of literacy and the access to books in the Chibuto District, where has been working since 2009.
During these two months, 11 reading animation sessions were held in 11 schools. The activity involved 422 children and young people. 15 sessions took place at the Municpal Library in the Municipal Garden, took place at the Municipal Library, counted with 235 participants, 4 sessions at Escolinha da Boa Nova, with 162 people present and 40 reading sessions for pregnant teenagers and recent mothers at the Chibuto Health Center, which involved 606 users of the health care center.
In the scope of these activities, 250 books were offered to newborns and babies who completed 12 months attending the Chibuto Health Center for medical consultations and informational leaflets on neonatal care were distributed.
At the same time, a thematic room was created inside the Municipal Library of Chibuto, dedicated to children and youth literature. With the implementation of this room 15 sessions of reading animation, that took place both in this new room as in the gardens of the Municipal Library, were held.
The project culminated with the 2nd Teachers Meeting of the Chibuto District School Library Network (RBEDC), which was attended by 25 teachers and technicians responsible for the Municipal Libraries of the Gaza Province, already supported by the AIDGLOBAL.
