Juju's Tchova brings books closer to the children of the Costa do Sol in Maputo

Under the motto “Play and Learn”, the Tchova was welcomed in a festive atmosphere, at a community event that included activities to boost reading and nutrition for the neighborhood's children.
“Juju's Tchova”, a mobile children's library designed to promote access to books and strengthen the link between schools and communities, was delivered on March 16 to the children of the Costa do Sol neighborhood in Maputo (Mozambique). Under the slogan “Play and Learn”, the Tchova was welcomed in a festive atmosphere, at a community gathering which included activities to boost reading and nutrition for the children of the neighborhood. This itinerant library, inspired by the “Bibliotchova” created by AIDGLOBAL under the CapEFA program - “Capacity Building in the context of Education for All in Mozambique”, will circulate between the neighbourhood and the NTWANANU Complete Primary School, under a protocol signed on March 12, 2013 with the Portuguese School of Mozambique (MABUKO YA HINA program), the Ntwananu School and the Livro Aberto Association. “We think that the issue of books is extremely important, because it encourages reading, creativity and we have a very interesting experience with the added value of these reading bags, which have had a direct effect on school results in one of the schools where we have been working for the longest time,” said the Director of the Portuguese School of Mozambique, Dina Trigo de Mira, during the signing ceremony of the protocol. The MABUKO YA HINA program is being implemented in conjunction with the Mozambican Ministry of Education, as part of a project by the Portuguese School Library Network, funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Ricardo Diogo Project. The construction of Juju's Tchova was made possible by around 70 supporters, through a crowdfunding campaign on the PPL.COM.PT website. The initiative is part of the “Juju the Ant and Karibu the Frog” project, developed in partnership with AIDGLOBAL, DSF-Douleurs Sans Frontières and Livro Aberto, with the aim of promoting inclusive education in Mozambique.
