The project to create a ‘Network of School Libraries in the District of Chibuto’ has the central objective of combating illiteracy and low reading levels in this district of Mozambique.
Between 25 and 27 June, the Chibuto Secondary School hosted a course on ‘School Library Management and Promotion’ with the project partners involved in creating a ‘School Library Network in the District of Chibuto’.
The course was attended by the AIDGLOBAL team, members of the Chibuto District Education, Youth and Technology Service (SDEJT), the Gaza Provincial Directorate of Education and Culture (DPEC), the Chibuto Municipal Library and all the schools involved (Chibuto Secondary School, Mohambe Secondary School, Malehice Secondary School, Macunene Primary School, Muxuquete Primary School, Ngungunhane Primary School, and the Primary School in District 3 of the city).
The course, facilitated by the Intermediate Institute of Documentary Sciences (CIDOC), aimed to develop skills for the management, organisation and promotion of school libraries. At the end of these training days, participants were able to organise library collections and learn about international standards for the operation of this type of library. The learning was well consolidated with the organisation of the current 300 titles in the Chibuto Secondary School Library.
In the coming weeks, a new training course on Reading Promotion and Animation will be held with these same participants.
The project to create a ‘Network of School Libraries in the District of Chibuto’ is co-financed by the Portuguese Institute for Development Support (IPAD).
