Sensitize, empower and train children, youth, adults and Civil Society Organizations on the islands of Porto Santo and Madeira.

Mobilize the educational community around Sustainable Development, cooperation between people and cultures and human rights.

In an increasingly globalized and interdependent world, the eradication of poverty and the need for sustainable development are concerns recognized by the entire national and international community.

Development Education is one of the thematic areas of Education for Citizenship. It allows for “awareness and understanding of the causes of development problems and inequalities at local and world level in a context of interdependence and globalization. The purpose is to promote the rights and duty of all people and that everyone participates and contributes to integral and sustainable development” (DGE).

  • Accredited trainings (2) aimed at teachers on ““A articulação da Cidadania Global com o Currículo” “(The articulation of Global Citizenship with the curriculum);
  • Strategies for transformative education;
  • Carrying out activities to promote Global Citizenship in the community and in schools;
  • Promotion of the contest: “Educar para Cooperar – Agora Tu” (Educate to Cooperate – Now You!”;
  • Training actions on various topics associated with education for development aimed at civil servants; – development of a pedagogical box with proposals that associate the reflection on the history of (re)discoveries with the promotion of Global Citizenship;
  • Conference “A voz do Outro nos (Re)Descobrimentos – à conquista dos Direitos Humanos e da Solidariedade entre Povos e Culturas” (The Voice of the Other in (Re)Discoveries – the Conquest of Human Rights and Solidarity Between People and Cultures).

The Guide is a resource for teachers of the various teaching cycles to work with their students on the issues of respect and tolerance for cultural diversity and the encounter between cultures and people, based on a critical reflection on the History of Portugal in the XV and XVI centuries.

The Study aims to raise awareness of issues related to the history of Portuguese (re)discoveries in the light of a more comprehensive and dynamic perspective. The discussion includes elements related to cooperation between people and cultures, human rights and interculturality.

As part of the training actions developed, in 2019, with about 100 civil servants, in the context of the project “Educate to Cooperate – Porto Santo and Madeira”,  ideas/suggestions were requested in favor of Human Rights and Sustainable Development, with possible local and global impact.
