The identification of the places where the Escolinhas secretariat’s house will take place and the sheds that will shelter the children on rainy and stormy days were also one of the themes under analysis during the action.
On the 15th, 16th and 25th of October, the communities of Bairro 25 de Junho, Chiconelane, Maivene, Malehice and Chaimite received the fourth Action for Awareness and Advocacy on the Importance of Childhood Education, carried out within the scope of the project “Educadores em Movimento – Uma Educação para a Primeira Infância” (Educators in Motion – an Itinerant Education for Early Childhood).
In total, the initiative raised awareness of more than 30 members of the aforementioned communities – religious leaders, local heads, neighborhood secretaries, fathers, mothers, caregivers – who are now more aware of the importance of early childhood education and the need for its participation in the Sessions and Parental Education, which have been carried out in the context of the project.
Within the scope of the initiative, a moment was set aside to identify the places where the construction of small houses to support community schools will take place, affectionately called “Escolinhas”, as well as the sheds that are intended to be created to protect children on rainy days and storm. In each of the five communities, the availability and receptiveness shown by the respective members of the Community Management Councils, responsible for managing the “Escolinhas”, to collaborate in the cleaning of the sites and in the construction of the project, together with the local authorities, was evident.
Itinerant Early Childhood Education is an extremely important topic on the global political agenda. According to data collected by UNESCO in 2007, Early Childhood Education is a necessary tool to alleviate poverty. However, data from UNICEF show that globally, 175 million children are not in pre-primary education when they are between 3 and 6 years old, with 78% of children in lower income countries being miss that opportunity.
The “Educadores em Movimento” (Educators in Motion) project aims for at least 40 children in each of the 5 intervention communities in Chibuto to use the Mobile Childhood Education services.
“Educadores em Movimento – Uma Educação Itinerante para a Primeira Infância” (Educators in Motion – An Itinerant Education for Early Childhood) has as its main funder the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, as co-financier Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language I.P., as promoter AIDGLOBAL, project manager, as co-promoter the Vocational and Residential Center of Chibuto (CVRC), and as partners the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria (IPL) (Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL)), its scientific-pedagogical coordinator, by the Center for International Studies of the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL)(CEI-IUL), coordinator of the anthropological component, by the District Service for Youth, Education and Technology of Chibuto (SDJET) and the District Service for Health, Women and Social Action (SDSMAS) – entities that guarantee the articulation of the project with public policies.
