On the 10th of June and 1st of July, the sessions held in the communities of Maivene and Malehice were attended by 20 women, namely mothers, carers and guardians, to reflect on issues around the Rights and Duties of Children.
The initiative, promoted by AIDGLOBAL, sought to raise the awareness of the participants to these issues, empowering them to the importance of a quality Early Childhood Education. The promotion of active and joint reflection on the rights and duties of the little ones and the main actions to violate their rights, contribute to the safety and development of good practices in the education of children in the communities that benefit from the “Educadores em Movimento” (Educators in Motion) project.
During the session, the participants had the opportunity to learn and share their views, stressing the importance that all children have the right to a name, a nationality, security as well as access to health and education, and the basic care that guarantees their well-being and integral development. Examples were given of violations of the rights of children which led to the sharing of practical cases adopted by the communities to provide solutions when situations arise which require rapid action in the face of this problem which affects thousands of children.
Debates and games related to these themes were also developed, with a view to raising families’ awareness of the importance of safeguarding the Rights of the Child, which in turn must be fully respected in favour of a quality Early Childhood Education.
The Parenting sessions were attended by the Project team, including the Community Educator Minércia Massuco and the Educators in Motion Luisa Maússe and Laura Machaeiei, who were responsible for promoting the activity.
At the end of the session, and moved by all the learning acquired, the beneficiaries committed themselves to putting their new knowledge into practice, with the aim of contributing and mobilising those around them to respect and fulfil children’s rights and duties.
