On World Oceans Day, celebrated on June 8, 2021, AIDGLOBAL participated in the 1st Week of the Sea promoted by Elementary and High School Prof. Dr. Francisco de Freitas Branco, Porto Santo, under the “Blue School” seal.

Schools, and especially teachers, are key players in carrying out activities that make children and their families aware of the impacts that marine life has on their daily lives. In this way, activities were promoted with the 4 classes from 9th grade, from May 31st to June 2nd, under the theme “SDG 14 – Life Below Water“, in conjunction with the curricular contents of the Geography discipline, within the scope of action plan “From School to the World – Acting, Including, Transforming”.

In support of the “Blue School” program and in conjunction with the theme of ocean preservation, the students reflected on the importance of protecting marine ecosystems, on all the elements that threaten the oceans, and analyzed actions that contribute to protecting the oceans of these threats. Cooperative games, debates and storytelling were carried out as a teaching-learning method.

This type of activities is intended to stimulate reflection at school on how our actions can impact, positively or negatively, the preservation of life in the water.

The Action Plan is promoted by AIDGLOBAL, in partnership with Elementary and High School of Porto Santo. It is part of the Citizens Ativ@s Program (EEA Grants), managed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Bissaya Barreto Foundation, through the Education for Citizenship project, implemented by the Gonçalo da Silveira Foundation and the Catholic University’s Research Center for Human Development Portuguese.
