AIDGLOBAL published an Article in “Cadernos de Estudos Africanos”

AIDGLOBAL has just published an article in the academic and scientific journal “Cadernos de Estudos Africanos” on the topic of psychomotor development of pre-school Mozambican children with a focus on Chibuto.

Researcher Carla Ladeira wrote an article entitled “Perceptions on the Psychomotor Development of Mozambican Children in Preschool Age in a Rural Context with focus on Chibuto” with the support of AIDGLOBAL as part of the project “Educators in Motion – An Itinerant Education for Early Childhood”.

Then intention of this article is to make known the evolution of studies and achievements in the context of child psychomotor development in Mozambique and the data collected in Chibuto through the “Educators in Motion” project. These references are intended not only to support the intervention and ensure the adequacy of the project’s activities to the reality of Mozambican children in a rural context, but also to enrich the bibliography on this topic.

In summary, this article proposes to draw attention to the following:

“Studies on child development are scarce particularly in Mozambique. The publications found essentially portray the child in its dimensions of vulnerability or a sociological perspective of the study of childhood. The existing studies present identified methodological weaknesses, namely with regard to the importation of instruments from Western countries or the lack of systematicity in the collection and processing of data.”

It can be concluded from the analyzes and observations that in a large part of the studies and investigations carried out in Mozambique regarding early childhood (from three to six years old) that the used tools and methodologies are out of context and little suited to the reality that is expected to be studied, thus altering the reliability of the results obtained.

Therefore, it is necessary to change and adapt the forms of research that have been practiced in order to respond to the challenges that are arising each moment in the education and development of Mozambican children.
