Last January 5th AIDGLOBAL participated in the Oficina Global Webinar promoted by CEsA - Centro de Estudos sobre África e Desenvolvimento (ISEG – Universidade de Lisboa (CEsA – Centre for African and Development Studies (ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics and Management at the University of Lisbon), in collaboration with the Portuguese NGDO Platform (PPONGD).
The initiative aimed to present the study “Innovation and Change in Portuguese NGDOs” and to publicize good practices and innovative solutions to development problems that are being promoted by various Non-Governmental Development Organizations (NGDOs).
AIDGLOBAL was present, represented by Susana Damasceno, Founder and President of the Organization, to talk about Bibliochova: a mobile library, which is based on a Tchova characteristic of Mozambique, and which is intended for schools that do not have the physical space to host a library. The concept and model of the Bibliochova were created in 2010 by AIDGLOBAL.
Throughout the presentation, the concept, model and purpose underlying this project, its objectives, the date of implementation and the impact it has had from the moment it was carried out to the present were shared. Also highlighted were a set of solutions and challenges identified during the project`s development process, along with strategies that have been designed to promote an environment conducive to literacy in Mozambique, a country where the illiteracy rate is around 39%, according to 2021 data released by the Mozambican Government.
The study “Innovation and Change in Portuguese NGDOs”, also featured in the Webinar, was prepared within the scope of the research project with the same name, financed by Camões, I.P., with the following main objectives: carrying out a mapping the culture, capacity and existing innovation support structures in NGDOs; identification of barriers to innovation in these organizations; and the elaboration of recommendations on the subject, aimed at NGDOs and other actors that work with them, such as PPONGD and Camões I.P.
According to PPONGD “as this is the first extensive study on the subject, we believe that the results could be extremely useful for the various stakeholders in the sector (Portuguese NGDOs, NGO partners, public and private donors) who want to play a more active role in innovation for development”.
