Global Walk – for Sustainable Communities

Educating through action.

AIDGLOBAL, Action and Integration for Global Development, alongside Vila Franca de Xira Municipality, promotes on May 15th at 2pm, in VFX, the SDGs Global Walk, part of the European project !Walk the Global Walk!. The goal of the project is to educate the youth and public opinion about the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals formalized by the United Nations, and expected to be implemented globally until 2030.

Those two partner entities represent Portugal, one of the 11 participant countries of the European project, which aims to raise awareness and promote the active Global Citizenship among young people, and enhance their engagement in the SDGs.

Sustainable cities and communities, peace, justice and efficient institutions are the goals chosen for the Global Walk, activity that represents the peak of the project, in which 70 young leaders were elected to engage their peers for the cause. Together they will join prominent figures of the Portuguese society, who relate to the call for a more sustainable world, which is everyone’s after all.

Next Wednesday May 15th, more than 1000 young participants are expected to participate in this SDGs Global Walk for global change, motivated by civil engagement and commitment in order to promote a transformative culture of co-responsibility.

This international project, implemented by AIDGLOBAL, also includes training sessions for teachers, educational courses for students, educational activities, organization of a European SDG Week, themed workshops and a Summer School in Portugal. Besides Portugal, other participant countries are Italy, France, Cyprus, United Kingdom (Wales and Scotland), Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and 11 civil society organizations (CSO). Each country is represented by a Municipality and a CSO, which cooperate as technical partners.

“Walk the Global Walk” is co-financed by the European Commission – Education for Development Line – and Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language (I.P.). It has the duration of 36 months and involves 11 countries and 20 partner entities, including AIDGLOBAL.
