Inauguration Cycle of Community Schools ends with the inauguration of the Malehice School

The initiative is promoted in the context of the project “Educadores em Movimento – Uma Educação Itinerante para a Primeira Infância” (Educators in Motion – An Itinerant Education for Early Childhood).

The morning of April 22nd was marked by another inauguration, this time in the Malehice community, Chibuto District, Gaza Province, Mozambique. This is the last of a cycle of ceremonies held between the 11th and 22nd of April, not only to formalise the opening of five Community Schools – through which the aim is to boost the response given to children between 0 and 5 years of age who live in this region of the country and who do not have access to pre-school education – but also to celebrate equal and broadened access to education, particularly when aimed at a section of the population who would otherwise have difficulty accessing it.

The inauguration ceremony began with the welcoming of the guests by the representatives of the community and the AIDGLOBAL team, followed by a cultural moment with the dance group “Macuaela” and a presentation by the 1st and 2nd grade students of Malehice Primary School.

This cultural moment preceded the interventions of the technician from the District Service for Health, Women and Social Action (SDSMAS), Rodrigues Matusse, of the President of AIDGLOBAL, Susana Damasceno, of the representative of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL), Maria Antónia Barreto and of the representative of Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language, I.P., Dra. Patrícia Pincarrilho.

In each of the speeches, the recognition of the impact that investment in early childhood education can have was evident, namely in the framework of the development of human capital, which in turn safeguards the socio-political, cultural and economic development of a country. The idea that it is in these children that Mozambique’s future lies, permeated the underlying message of each of the speeches, and for this reason, the observation was reiterated that education can never be a postponed investment, otherwise, in this postponement, we would also be postponing the construction and experience of a fairer, more egalitarian and sustainable future for future generations.

The most formal moment was preceded by the presentation of the gowns of the educators and children by the District Administrator, followed by the presentation of songs and the offering of capulanas to the President of AIDGLOBAL, as a gesture of gratitude on the part of the educators and the various members of the Community Management Council of the Malehice School.

This was followed by speeches by the Director of SDSMAS, José Murrona, the Director of SDEJT,. Ernesto Macamo, and finally the Chief of the Locality of Malehice, Domingas Alfredo Dove, who was representing the Chief of the Administrative Post of Malehice.

On the occasion of each of the interventions, the importance that the Schools represent in the context of the District’s development was once again highlighted, as well as the impact that it is already having on the integral development of the 58 children who attend the Schools.
