The construction of the Chaimite Community School – an initiative promoted by AIDGLOBAL under the project “Educators em Movimento – Uma Educação Itinerante para a Primeira Infância” (Educators in Motion – An Itinerant Education for Early Childhood) – reinforces the organisation’s concern to safeguard supply and improve the quality of work in the area of pre-school education in Mozambique.
On April 14th, the Chaimite Community School was inaugurated, located in Chibuto District, Gaza Province, Mozambique, in a ceremony attended by 105 people, including community leaders, parents, carers, community members and members of the AIDGLOBAL team.
The opening was done in the voice and steps of the students from Chaimite Primary School, who, accompanied by their teachers, sang celebratory songs that confirmed the idea that education is also a place where the voice rises and flies, not on wings, but in the steps that children and young people take for their future and the future of future generations.
This was, in fact, an idea that also crossed the speech of Susana Damasceno, Founder and President of AIDGLOBAL, who reiterated the importance of a greater investment in Pre-School Education, as “part of a necessary path towards the formation of full citizens, capable of being and communicating with others, of taking decisions, making choices and facing this challenge that is life”. He stressed, however, that “this work is done in a relationship of dialogue and permanent cooperation between the School, the family and the community”.
A position shared and corroborated by the community leaders present, along with the technician from the District Health, Women and Social Action Service, Rodrigues Matusse, and the Chief of the Locality, Gerónimo Américo Machava. During their interventions, both expressed their feelings of gratitude for the materialisation of an initiative that they believe represents an important step towards providing the children of the Chamite Community with access to educational resources and learning with a real impact on their development, their well-being and their social integration.
The institutional interventions were followed by the handing over of the coats to the children and educators, on which occasion parents and carers took the floor to thank the building of the Escolinha, whose impact they already recognise, namely by the way their children interact and show new skills.
The initiative ended with a lunch shared by those present and the launch of a marrabenta – a form of music/dance typical of Mozambique – produced by a primary school teacher from the community of Chaimite. The lyrics of the song and the movements that embodied this dance were a heartfelt thank you to AIDGLOBAL for the fact that the Chaimite Community already has a Escolinha.
