Foods that tell stories

Transnational competition for urban agriculture

As part of the Urbagri4women project, the countries that integrate it are promoting, from 1 July to 28 October 2018, the global urban agriculture contest under the theme “Foods that tell stories” in which a verbal and/or non-verbal narrative text is elaborated from the photograph of a dish — cooked or not. Each of the 7 partner countries develops its own competition and will have individualized winners. The prize for the selected productions will be announced by the end of September, followed by a ceremony to award the prizes and their sharing on common social networks – Sites, Facebook and Twitter - with identification of the author.

The initiative aims to foster the cultural expression and image of migrant women, demonstrating their creativity and combining different artistic areas such as photography, cooking, storytelling and even gardening, in order to encourage communication between people from different backgrounds who share their own culture as part of a reciprocal relationship with citizens of the societies that welcome them.

The competition is open to all migrant women residing in one of the host countries that are part of the project, regardless of their age. Competitors under the age of 18 must prove the permission of a parent or legal guardian.

Urbagri4women is a European project managed by the NGOD TAMAT (Italy) in coordination with 7 European countries and which aims to promote the integration of migrant women, including asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international protection in host societies, allowing them to develop innovative and subsistence projects in the area of agriculture. The inclusion of these migrant women is carried out through educational and recreational activities, vocational training, access to the labour market, anti-discrimination and cultural initiatives that promote intercultural dialogue and a welcoming culture, involving public administrations, social partners, immigrant organisations and other relevant stakeholders.

The “Urbagri4Women” project is co-financed by the Asylum, Integration and Migration Fund (AMIF) of the European Commission and involves the partnership of 7 countries of the European Union — Austria, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and the United Kingdom. AIDGLOBAL – Action and Integration for Global Development — is the national partner entity of the project.
