Summer School, in Porto Santo, motivates young people for social participation, in school and in the community

Youth, Associations and Human Rights is the motto that animates the Summer School within the scope of the Action Plan for Education for Citizenship entitled “From School to the World – Acting, Including, Transforming”, taking place at the Elementary and High School Prof. Doctor Francisco Freitas Branco, in Porto Santo, from June 28th to July 2nd, between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.

Critical reflection on issues associated with human rights, through participatory dynamics or encouraging the co-creation of a student association based on the playful learning of the concepts of leadership, cooperation, associations and youth activism are two of the objectives that permeate this training program that intends to challenge to action, based on youth participation and citizenship.

Sofia Lopes, Project Manager at AIDGLOBAL and Coordinator of this Action Plan, underlines the importance of these initiatives, especially “when raising awareness and preparing students to become democratic, tolerant and participatory citizens, capable of promoting non-discrimination among peers, the integration of diversity, equality in relationships and respect for human rights”.

The Summer School, held under this Action Plan, is aimed at students in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades of the Professor Dr. Francisco Freitas Branco Elementary and High School, in Porto Santo.

The Action Plan is promoted by AIDGLOBAL, in partnership with Elementary and High School of Porto Santo. It is part of the Citizens Ativ@s Program (EEA Grants), managed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Bissaya Barreto Foundation, through the Education for Citizenship project, implemented by the Gonçalo da Silveira Foundation and the Catholic University’s Research Center for Human Development Portuguese.
