Under the theme of cultural diversity, the 8th grade classes from B+S Professor Dr. Francisco de Freitas Branco School, Porto Santo, have developed several works, throughout this school year, with the support of various teachers.

In Geography, the classes prepared works about different countries of the world, with the contribution of people from these territories. The exhibition, inaugurated on March 24, was marked by cultural diversity at all levels, including gastronomy, in which those present got to know typical dishes from São Tomé and Príncipe, Italy, Romania, Brazil, Switzerland, France and Luxembourg. In a final dynamic, the students from the Escola Profissional de Hotelaria e Turismo (Porto Santo branch) developed a joint activity, a peddy paper, with the 8th A class.

The messages initially worked in the subject of Citizenship and Development (8th A and B), about “how would you like to be received if you were an immigrant” were the starting point for the production of visual poetry works, in the subject of Visual Education, with the support of Citizenship and Geography. The exhibition “Encounters with Diversity” has been on display since May 11, at the Porto Santo B+S School, and aims to raise awareness of cultural diversity, migrations and appeal to the inclusion of immigrants.

A special thanks to the Escola Profissional de Hotelaria e Turismo (Porto Santo branch), namely to the class 13 and their colleagues, teachers and tutor. Also, a thank you to the guests who were present in the classrooms: Pietro (Italy), Mariana (Romania), Alicia (Switzerland), Mauro and Flor (S. Tomé and Príncipe).

The initiative is promoted by AIDGLOBAL, under the Action Plan “Da Escola para o Mundo – Agir, Incluir, Transformar” (From School to the World – Act, Include, Transform) (Active Citizens Fund, EEA Grants), in partnership with the Escola Básica e Secundária Professor Dr. Francisco Freitas Branco (School B+S Prof. Dr. Francisco de Freitas Branco, Porto Santo).
