Pedagogical Farm brings life to School

This school year, activities were developed at the Pedagogical Farm and Garden of the B+ Professor Dr. Francisco Freitas Branco School, Porto Santo, with the purpose of promoting Environmental Education through the development of agricultural activities, involving the school and local community.

Following the Pedagogical Farm, activities related to agriculture and livestock were streamlined with several classes, in order to make known the local agricultural reality, and the exchange of experiences with local farmers was promoted, namely through the signing of a protocol between the school and the Association of Farmers of Porto Santo Island (APIPS) and the dissemination and reintroduction of chícharo. In addition, under the Agroescolas project, the school was awarded with the AgroSelo. In order to contribute to the development of the garden, AIDGLOBAL delivered a set of materials indispensable to farming activities.

The presence of animals at school, as part of the playground occupation, also motivated the attribution of the Seal. The interaction between the students and the farm animals, besides promoting education for animal welfare, promotes the socialization and inclusion of the students.

The activities provide interdisciplinarity and a connection to the community, aiming at the students’ academic and personal success.

AIDGLOBAL visited the school and recorded moments of the activities developed within the Agriculture Week. You can watch the video here.
