Laboratórios de Agricultura Urbana capacitam mulheres migrantes

This course is integrated in the Urbagri4Women project

On the 9th of March, at the Terraços da Ponte Development, in Sacavém, the first Urban Agricultural Labs, which are part of the Urbagri4Women project, began. They aimed to integrate and qualify migrant women of non-Portuguese nationality.

The 45-hour course, part of the “Urban Agriculture and Community Rehabilitation” training sessions will take place throughout June and includes 16 participants from Angola, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe. The sessions have been organised by the AIDGLOBAL team and by the Hortas Ecológicas project.

The Loures Council granted a space where the participants have been working. They have already covered topics such as sowing prep, biological farming, saving water, healthy cooking, edible flowers, and different ways to use produce from the vegetable garden, among other things. During these sessions, the participants also have the opportunity to learn more about entrepreneurship and the European Union (EU).

The Urbagri4Women project implements a set of initiatives for promoting social inclusion and female empowerment, focusing on how to contribute to a fundamental policy of inclusion for migrants. It is partly funded by the European Commission through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and involves seven organisations from seven EU countries.
