AIDGLOBAL held, together with the Youth House of Póvoa do Varzim, the Workshop “GO YOUTH! Youth Active for Development”, which had the participation of 21 local representatives of youth party, youth associations and student associations.

The initiative took place on 9 April in the Youth House of Póvoa do Varzim. It was guided by Non-formal Education methods to promote reflection, critical sense, teamwork and awareness of local political participation in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Global Citizenship.

The workshop, framed in the project “Youth in Politics – Participate for Global Citizenship (2nd Ed.)”, was attended by Dr Marco Barbosa, Youth Councilor of Póvoa de Varzim. He talked to young people about the importance of their active participation in local and also global issues, encouraging a proactive and dynamic attitude towards the community and the different actors on the political stage.

In addition to the debates on migration, gender equality, war and peace, food security, social justice and human rights, there was also room for interaction dynamics through games made available by the Youth House of Póvoa de Varzim, which allowed the players to get to know each other a little better.

At the end of the workshop, a brief questionnaire was carried out to evaluate the initiative’s impact and its positive aspects. Most of the young people mentioned that they had enjoyed “collective participation because it allows them to grow with different perspectives”, “meet new people, learn and grow”, as well as “the approach of the most creative themes and activities, by the pedagogical game component”. Also, about 86% of the participants stated that the workshop was more interesting than expected.

This meeting is part of a Cycle of 5 Workshops, one per region of the country, focused on the Sustainable Development Goals and Portuguese Cooperation.
