AIDGLOBAL has been promoting the project “Educar para Cooperar” (Educate to Cooperate) since 2006, the 1st Edition having been carried out in the Casa Pia de Lisboa, in the CED (Education and Development Centre) of D.ª Maria Pia, and in the Colégio dos Pupilos do Exército.
The 3rd Edition had the participation of 14 classes, from Pre-school to 2nd Cycle, and took place in five CED. The project combines the themes of Development Education with school curricula, through the implementation of participative and active sessions, with a view to promoting Global Citizenship.
The 3rd edition of the project lasted 10 months and took place between September 2008 and July 2009.
To disseminate the values and themes of Development Education among the students of Casa Pia de Lisboa;
Promote the debate on the themes of Development Education within the educational community.
The “Educar para Cooperar ” (Educate to Cooperate) project arises from the need to fill a gap in Portuguese society and, above all, within the educational community, with regard to awareness of the global asymmetries that affect us all.
It is within the scope of Development Education that the theme of Global Citizenship has been worked on, deserving attention from civil society organizations and some public entities.
This project seeks to raise children’s awareness to various issues related to development and social and geographical inequalities, starting with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and covering topics such as Fair Trade and Volunteering, working with innovative and participatory methodologies, characteristic of non-formal education.
