Expanding access to books in Mozambique.
Mozambique is characterised by a weakness in the school skills acquired by pupils. Many reach the end of primary school without being able to read or write.
Access to books is difficult! There are few public places (libraries, archives, schools, etc.) with books. In the few existing school and municipal libraries, not even one book per student is available. There are not enough books to be used as reading, study and teaching aids.
The reinforcement of existing libraries and the creation of school libraries respond to these problems, as well as the training of technicians and encouragement of future/recent mothers to use books.
School libraries created
AIDGLOBAL won the UNESCO competition.
In 2011, AIDGLOBAL won the contest launched by UNESCO under the CapEFA program – “Desenvolvimento de Capacidades no Contexto da Educação para Todos em Moçambique” (Capacity Development in the Context of Education for All in Mozambique).
In this context, the Bibliotchova (Librarytchova) was born, an unprecedented mobile library, with capacity to carry about 100 books, which is based on a tchova, a handcart characteristic of Mozambique, which is intended for schools without physical space to accommodate a library.
Throughout the years AIDGLOBAL has established partnerships with several organizations who connect with our mission. AIDGLOBAL thanks all public and private entities for the support shown in our work, in the certainty that we will continue our path towards creating change for a more just and equitable world through education.
