Return to school after confinement

Workshop held at School B+S do Porto Santo.

The workshop “Back to school after lockdown: the mental health of our young people in Porto Santo” took place on April 17, at the Basic and High School of Porto Santo, with the presence of 16 children’s guardians.

The pandemic changed routines, priorities and made children and teenagers more dependent on technology, depriving them of sports activities and group interactions. According to some studies, confinement affected their physical and mental health.

At this meeting, various situations were presented on how confinement has affected, directly and indirectly, the lives of young people, showing alternatives to minimize the effects of the pandemic.

The workshop was moderated by Leila Pedro and had as guest speaker Maria Neves Chaskelman who addressed and reflected, with the participants, on themes related to adolescence, family and mental health.

The psychologists present reinforced the importance of the family, of actively listening to young people and of physical activity.

The initiative was part of the Action Plan “From School to the World – Acting, Including, Transforming”, promoted by the NGO AIDGLOBAL and the Basic and High School of Porto Santo, and had the support of the Association of Parents and Children’s Guardians of the B+S Porto Santo School.
