Meeting with the support of the Parents’ Association.

About 20 fathers, mothers and educators attended the workshop on “Educating to Include: Dealing with the Disorder – ADHD”, held on the 8th July 2022, at Escola Básica e Secundária Professor Dr. Francisco Freitas Branco, Porto Santo.

Psychologist Leila Pedro explained the main characteristics of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), among other aspects, such as the specific symptoms, the biological and psychosocial bases and the impact on the family.

The group of participants had the opportunity to perform a dynamic to feel the difficulties experienced by people with ADHD, and to share questions and fears related to everyday life.

“ADHD is a neurobiological and developmental disorder characterised by three types of symptoms: hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. Knowing how to identify the difficulties associated with these symptoms, which have a major impact on the lives of children with ADHD, their families and the school environment, as well as knowing the educational strategies for dealing with them, helps to minimise the consequences of a disorder that occurs in 7% of the school population”. The initiative is part of the Action Plan  “Da Escola para o Mundo – Agir, Incluir, Transformar” (From School to the World – Act, Include, Transform) of the Active Citizen Fund, financed by EEA Grants and promoted by AIDGLOBAL Association, in partnership with Escola Básica e Secundária Professor Dr. Francisco Freitas Branco, Porto Santo, and had the support of the Association of Parents and Guardians of E. B+S Porto Santo.
