Leadership and Action Planning Day Workshops

Leadership and Action Planning Day Workshops

On April 8th and 9th, within the scope of the “Walk the (Global) Walk” Project, four Leadership Workshops were held, in online format, lasting 4 hours each, aimed at young leaders according to the Sustainable Development Goal 16 – Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions.

Promoted by the AIDGLOBAL team, together with the Vila Franca de Xira City Council, this initiative aimed to awaken leadership skills in young people through games, challenges and knowledge sharing about youth and the SDGs. These were moments of great inspiration, teamwork and reflection! The initiative had 70 leaders and 12 teachers from 10 schools in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira.

On April 12th and 13th, following the Leadership Workshops, the Action Planning Day was held. On the first day, the young leaders planned, by school, actions with and for the school community and for the community in general, with the aim of contributing to the promotion of SDG 16, namely on issues such as inclusion, peace and justice.

On the second day of the activity, each group presented their action proposals to the other leaders and teachers present, as well as 9 Local Authorities of the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, from different areas, such as Education, Urbanism, Health and Environment. The elements of the municipal executive listened to the ideas of the young people, gave their feedback and showed themselves available to support the execution, according to the relevance of the planned action.

The promotion of these initiatives was likely to promote the leadership and empowerment of young people, giving them voice, autonomy and tools to develop skills such as active listening, conflict resolution, organization, confidence, self-esteem and motivation. Certainly, after these days, the leaders will be ready to put into practice the actions planned during the ODS Fortnight, which will take place in May and June.

The “Walk the (Global) Walk” project is co-financed by the European Commission and Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language, I.P., lasts 36 months and involves 11 countries and 20 partner entities. Italy, France, Cyprus, the United Kingdom (Wales and Scotland), Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and 11 Organizations participate in it, along with of Civil Society Organizations (CSO). Each country is represented by a Municipality and a CSO, which collaborate as technical partners of the municipalities.
