On May 10th, the 1st Eco-Pólis Workshop took place as part of the European “Ecoality” project, implemented in Portugal by AIDGLOBAL and the Municipality of Loures. The initiative involved 21 young people from schools in the Municipality of Loures, the Somos Maré Association, Youth4Change and Start Social’s Project Esperança.
The Eco-Pólis Laboratory is a space for meeting, participation and co-creation, where young people are challenged to reflect on and develop solutions for more sustainable, fair and inclusive communities. In 2025, AIDGLOBAL held three Eco-Pólis sessions, from which three projects with social and environmental impact emerged.
As in previous editions, the session gave rise to the project “Descodificando aqueles dias” (Decoding Those Days), a podcast created by young people to raise awareness of issues related to menstruation, sustainability and gender equality. The podcast will consist of eight short episodes, each lasting approximately eight to ten minutes, addressing topics such as the menstrual cycle, menstrual dignity, period poverty, sustainable menstrual products, ecofeminism, intersectionality and social inequalities.
In addition to the informative aspect, the project will include opportunities for young people to share their personal stories and experiences, fostering more open, informed and mindful conversations on these topics. The recordings will take place in school and community settings, aiming to bring the project closer to the realities and lived experiences of the young participants.
The intersectional dimension plays a central role in the project, linking menstrual dignity with ecological education and gender equality, recognising these issues as interconnected challenges. Through an ecofeminist perspective, the podcast seeks to reflect on how factors such as gender, economic status and social inequalities influence experiences related to poverty and the menstrual taboo.
The episodes will be released via Instagram and TikTok, in partnership with Loures Municipal Council.
Further updates on the project will be released shortly.
The European project “Ecoality”, which aims to promote Climate Justice and Gender Equality, is implemented by AIDGLOBAL and the Municipality of Loures in Portugal, and is co-funded by the European Commission and Camões – Institute for Cooperation and the Portuguese Language.
