AIDGLOBAL launches the project “Urbagri4women”

Promoting social inclusion of migrant women

AIDGLOBAL is starting in this current month of December the European project “Urbagri4women – Innovative practices and urban initiatives in the field of agriculture for promoting integration of migrant women in the host society”.

Developed in 7 countries, this project’s main goal is to foster the integration of these women, including the ones seeking asylum and the benneficiaries of international protection in the host society, enabling them to develop innovative and livelyhood projects in the field of agriculture.

The project intends to strive for inclusion of this specific group of women through educational and recreational activities, professional training, access to the labour market, fight against discrimination and cultural initiatives aimed at promoting an intercultural dialogue and fostering culture, involving public adminstrations, social partners, immigrant Organizations and other relevant stakeholders.

Several activities are already planned, namely 24 focus groups with the regional communities empowered with this specific know how, in order to foster dialogue and aiming at creating strategies able to strength the socioeconomic and political involvement of immigrants in the host society, and a transnational workshop aimed at sharing the acquired skills and guiding future actions. The project involves as well a transnational field trip held as a discussion, interchange and learning forum, which will enable the partners and members of those communities to improve their understanding of the policies addressed to immigation management. Some e-learning material and a good practice catalogue will be drafted as well and Urban Agriculture Labs will be created to serve as physical spaces for enabling migrant women, having the community members endowed with those specific insights as trainers. The publication of a Green Paper about migrant women integration to be discussed at the European Union level will peak the project.

The Project has a 24-month duration, will be held between December 1 2016 and November 30 2018. It is co-funded by the European Commission through the “Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund” (HOME/2015/AMIF/AG/INTE), promoted by the TAMAT (Italy) organization, in partnership with the following organizations: AIDGLOBAL – Action and Integration for Global Development (Portugal), Institute of Entrepreneurship Development (Grécia), GYROS (United Kingdom), Sudwind (Austria), AMSED - Association Migration, Solidarité et Échanges pour le Développement (França) and CARDET (Cyprus).
