“Diálogos no Sofá – Bora lá!”: the event based on the Sustainable Development Goals to mobilize youth to (re)action

AIDGLOBAL – Action and Integration for Global Development, in partnership with the Lisbon Youth Center of the Portuguese Youth Institute (CJL-IPDJ, IP), promotes the initiative “Diálogos no Sofá – Bora lá!” (Dialogues on the Sofa  – Let’s go!), scheduled for September 17, between 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm, in the Auditorium of the Lisbon Youth Centre of the IPDJ, I.P.

Carried out within the scope of the youth vote appeal campaign entitled "Bora Lá, Sai do Sofá!" (Let’s go, Get off the Sofa!), which is part of the project "Jovens na Política - Participar para a Cidanaia Global" (Youth in Politics – Participating for Global Citizenship (2nd Ed.)), the action seeks to create a space for reflection around matters relating to human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), raising awareness and mobilizing youth to action in favor of a more just, peaceful, egalitarian and equitable world.

Structured in three moments, the event opens with interventions by the Member of the Board of Directors of IPDJ, I.P., Carlos Alves Pereira, and by the Founder and President of AIDGLOBAL, Susana Damasceno.

The round table will feature the voices of André Barata and João Cancela, professors at the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Beira Interior (FAL-UBI) and at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCSH-UNL), respectively, which will promote a reflection on the relationship between global citizenship and politics, also seeking to understand the implications that the pandemic may have had in that relationship, namely among young people. Steps that can be taken to promote greater involvement of young people in politics by mobilizing them to read and think critically about political programs or the complex issues surrounding human rights, climate change , the support to humanitarian aid, the inclusion of refugees and migrants, will also be highlighted themes.

The first moment, dedicated to framing the event and the concept of policy, will be complemented by a second in which there will be space for sharing a set of projects created to transform the world into a fairer and more sustainable place. Francisco Araújo, Joana Bacelar, João Lopes, Mamadu Djaló, Raquel Moreiras, Ricardo Andrade and Quitéria Guirengane will, in various timbres but with a single voice, share the ideas, forms and means they used to intone what is the common vision of an ideal world that demands global action capable of eradicating poverty and creating a sustainable, fair and equal life for all people.

The moderation is in charge of Catarina Silva, young entrepreneur, founder of the Veggie Rebel project, which seeks to fight for a fairer world with respect for the rights of animals.

Participation is free but requires prior and mandatory registration through the link available, here.
