The initiative is part of the ‘Ecoality: Youth and Local Authorities together for Climate and Gender Justice’ project, led by the Tuscany Region and carried out in consortium with other associations of municipalities in 10 European countries. In Portugal, it is being promoted by AIDGLOBAL in partnership with the Municipality of Loures.
Aimed at raising awareness, mobilising and empowering around the themes of climate action and gender equality, applications must be submitted online by 7 September 2025 by non-profit organisations: youth community-based, led by young people, voluntary associations made up mostly of young people, or civil society organisations working with young people. Interested organisations can apply as applicants or in partnerships as co-applicants.
Applications must correspond to at least one of the priority areas: Intersectionality - promoting initiatives that recognise the intersection of social, economic and environmental inequality factors; Youth Empowerment - supporting young people in taking active roles in their communities; Climate Justice - addressing the impacts of climate change and promoting sustainable solutions; Gender Justice - combating gender inequality and promoting women's rights.
Eligible initiatives should focus on local solutions and community-based actions that integrate climate justice and gender justice. Activities may include: Political influence for climate and gender justice at local or regional level; Public awareness campaigns for environmental sustainability and gender equality; Participatory educational events, including workshops, seminars and festivals, that promote climate action and gender empowerment; and Innovative community projects focused on ecological preservation, eco-social transition or sustainable practices, with an emphasis on the participation of women and young people belonging to marginalised groups.
The winning projects will be monitored by AIDGLOBAL and the Municipality of Loures and the promoting organisations will receive support, training and mentoring in the process of implementing their initiatives. The youth organisations will be given financial resources to enable them to implement active citizenship initiatives in the target communities.
The winning projects should last between 5 and 6 months and could receive funding of between €3,000 and €5,000.
