AIDGLOBAL Donates Computers to Schools in Mozambique

In partnership with the PT Foundation, AIDGLOBAL donated computers to several schools in the Chibuto District, Mozambique.
The educational communities of the Secondary Schools of Chibuto, Mohambe, Malehice and the Primary Schools of Macunene and Ngungunhane rejoiced at the computers donated by Aidglobal, under the sponsorship of the PT Foundation, thus enabling them to access information and communication technologies.

According to the district director of Education, Youth and Technology in Chibuto, José Francisco Chichava, the inclusion of more computers in schools ‘is a great incentive for education’ in the district of Chibuto, as it constitutes a valuable contribution to the ‘training of students’.

The headteacher of Malehice Secondary School, Gertrudes Langane, considers this donation a ‘victory’ and an incentive to ‘fight harder’, since ‘access to computers guarantees access to the global world and to information’, enabling each student to start higher education with computer skills.

The students' enthusiasm was also evident.

Manuel Sael, 14, a 9th-year student, told SAPO Notícias that this academic year he will enrol in the IT course so that he can work more easily and even ‘look up words’ that he does not yet know. Lúcia Muchanga, 14, a 10th-year student, shares the same desire.

According to Hugo Jorge, AIDGLOBAL's Project Manager in Mozambique, ‘after several months of transport from Lisbon to Chibuto, it is with great satisfaction that the computers are now in the hands of students, teachers and other education professionals in Chibuto. Hugo Jorge believes that ’the computers will be well used and maintained and will provide great learning opportunities".

AIDGLOBAL is certain that the donated computers will be a valuable aid in consolidating and enriching the work of Mozambican school libraries.
