AIDGLOBAL won a competition launched by UNESCO under the CapEFA programme – “Capacity Development in the context of Education for All in Mozambique”, where it will have to implement a pilot project on the introduction of Mobile Libraries in the Literacy and Adult Education programme.
The overall objective of this project is to create environments conducive to literacy in 10 selected communities through training in library management, promotion of reading and mobilisation of bibliographic resources, and creation of mobile libraries.
AIDGLOBAL was therefore called upon to:
- Draw up a list of libraries and bibliographic references and identify reading resources suitable for newly literate adults for each selected province.
- Produce guidelines for the management and maintenance of mobile libraries, for the creation of activities to promote reading around libraries and for the development of activities to mobilise bibliographic resources.
- Conduct training at the provincial level on the topics covered in the aforementioned guidelines.
- Produce 15 mobile libraries and 5 fixed libraries.
In producing the mobile libraries, AIDGLOBAL will use its own model – Bibliotchova – developed by volunteer Aldo Tornaghi, in conjunction with the coordinator of the delegation in Mozambique, Ana Rita Sequeira, and adapted to the context in which it will be used. Duration and beneficiary districts
The project will run until February 2011 and will benefit the following districts, distributed across the respective provinces:
- Inhambane: Mabote, Funhaloro and Pande
- Sofala: Nhamatanda, Gorongoza and Caia
- Nampula: Ribaué, Monapo, Mossuril and Ilha de Moçambique
