The workshop Go Youth! Youth Active for Development gathered around a dozen young people in Portimão, interested in actively participating in the reflection on the various issues that cross the concerns expressed in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On the afternoon of March 12th, in Portimão, another workshop of the Go Youh! Active Youth for Development programme took place. The initiative, under the themes Youth Political Participation, Global Citizenship and Development Educationand Global Citizenship, was promoted by DYPALL Network and AIDGLOBAL, under the scope of the project Jovens na Política – Participar para a Cidadania Global (2ª Ed.) (Youth in Politics – Participate for Global Citizenship (2nd Edition).
The meeting brought together eight people interested in politics, some of them members of party youths and active in associative movements.
The first part of the workshop focused on youth participation. A constructive debate was proposed in which the existing structures in the field of youth participation were questioned with regard to their representativeness and communication. The opinions were divided and triggered a constructive discussion, preceded by a reflection and the presentation of a set of proposals capable of constituting solutions.
In the second part of the meeting the theme of Global Citizenship and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was introduced, through the creation of a dynamic that encouraged the participants to put themselves in the other's place, based on real circumstances and contexts experienced by young people in various parts of the world.
Alongside this dynamic, and in order to leverage an awareness-raising process on "thinking globally" and "acting locally", a space was also created for reflection and discussion around the management of the causes and impacts caused namely by the migratory crises and climate change, having also addressed the issue of gender inequality.
An initiative with impact, judging by the evaluation of the participants who characterised the workshop as having been "different", a "learning path", a platform for "motivation" and capable of awakening the "will to participate and to make a difference".
The project “Jovens na Política – Participar para a Cidadania Global (2ª Edição)” (Youth in Politics – Participate for Global Citizenship (2nd Edition)) is promoted by AIDGLOBAL, co-funded by Camões, I.P. and has as partners the Conselho Nacional da Juventude (National Youth Council) (CNJ), Federação Nacional das Associações Juvenis (National Federation of Youth Associations) (FNAJ), Dypall Network, ISCTE Center for International Studies, Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude (IPDJ), Lisbon Youth Centre (CJL), and the Municipality of Santarém.
