Classes 5A and 5B in Catujal finish with a storytelling session about Formiga Juju

Two young girls from Centro Educativo da Bela Vista led the session and raised awareness about Global Citizenship issues.

As a way to end the 2014/2015 school year, the students from classes 5A and 5B from Escola Básica do Catujal welcomed two young girls from Centro Educativo da Bela Vista on 12 June to tell two short stories about Formiga Juju: "Ant Juju and Sapo Karibu” and “Ant Juju in the City of Papayas”.
In one of the stories, Karibu, Ant Juju’s frog friend, has a problem in his bicycle that he can’t fix because he is mute and no one understands him. Thus, the students from Centro Educativo da Bela Vista shared the adventure that Juju faces to help her friend while raising awareness about issues such as non-discrimination, mutual help, joining efforts, and solidarity, among others.
In the story about the City of Papayas, the brave Formiga Juju travels through the African continent to solve the problem of lack of water in the city of Papayas, thus sending a strong message about the importance of water and the problems of pollution for the environment.
The students who led the activity were accompanied by their Portuguese teacher, Adelaide Rodrigues, an AIDGLOBAL volunteer.
Dressed in her capulana and bringing along the scents of the African continent, Ant Juju thus marked the beginning of the school holidays by raising awareness and increasing the will of these students to contribute to a Global Citizenship this summer!
This initiative strengthened the partnership between AIDGLOBAL and Centro Educativo da Bela Vista and also involved Escola Básica do Catujal in the project “Educate to Cooperate”.
