First Volunteering and Activism Camp: Ecoality unites young people in Loures for climate and gender justice

From July 13th until the 21st, the First Ecoality Volunteering and Activism Camp took place at the Municipal Park of Cabeço de Montachique in Loures. The initiative brought together young people aged 15 to 18 to reflect on and take action regarding Climate Justice and Gender Equity.

Promoted by AIDGLOBAL — Action and Integration for Global Development, in partnership with the Municipality of Loures, the camp is part of the European project “Ecoality: Youth and Local Authorities Together for Climate and Gender Justice.” The project is co-financed by the European Commission and Camões — Institute for Cooperation and Language, I.P.

For eight days, young participants were invited to get involved in activities that promote reflection, cooperation, and empowerment in an intergenerational space that also brought together children and seniors. The goal was to create an environment conducive to dialogue about the intersectionality between climate change and gender equality, fostering active and conscious citizenship.

The activities were led by the AIDGLOBAL team with the collaboration of Start.Social — Socio-Educational Cooperative for Community Development, the Luiz Pereira Motta Association (a residential structure for the elderly), and the Social and Parish Center of São Pedro de Lousa. AIDGLOBAL once again expresses its gratitude to these institutions for their availability and involvement.

The "Ecoality" project's Volunteering and Activism Camp was a special space for learning, sharing experiences, and promoting fundamental values for a more just, sustainable, and inclusive future.
