AIDGLOBAL was in Barcelona, Spain, from the 30th of January to the 1st of February 2019 to participate in the presentation and launch meeting for the 16th edition of the European project Connecting Worlds, from 2019 until 2020.
Susana Damasceno, the President of the Board of Directors, and Mariana Esteves, project manager, represented the Organization at this event in which other various partners were also present. The upcoming activities were planned and organized at this gathering.
“AIDGLOBAL and the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria now join a team of motivated and experienced partners. With OXFAM Itália and led by OXFAM Intermón, the next edition of the Connecting Worlds project will be carried out based on innovative tools used in all phases. The key theme for the upcoming year has already been decided within the project framework, but it will remain a secret of the gods. Follow this project,” Mariana Esteves proclaimed.
Connecting Worlds aims to contribute to the development of social, civic, and intercultural competence, media literacy, and critical thinking in schools by providing resources and tools against discrimination, racism, inequality, and any form of violence in the classroom.
The project integrates content, Education for Global Citizenship methodologies, and new technologies for Educational practices for teachers and their students. This, therefore, enables teachers to promote a new Educational model which is more humane and transformative.
Education plays a key role in society, with the power to create a change in values, attitudes, and behaviours in the face of everyday challenges.
The project also hopes to improve the quality of education, provide tools to evaluate Global Competency in schools, and reinforce collaboration with educational institutions that promote a holistic pedagogical approach in three European countries; Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
AIDGLOBAL was invited to participate in the 15 and 16 editions as part of the consortium. The project was created in 2004 by a team of teachers and professionals from Oxfam Intermón and aimed at developing an innovative education proposal. Since then, 127.000 students have participated from 41 countries in more than 1700 schools.
One decade later, the original proposal developed with a different theme: labour rights, climate change, migration, peace culture, and justice food, among others.
The European Commission finances connecting Worlds: Erasmus +, led by OXFAM Intermón and involves three partnering entities: OXFAM Itália, the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and AIDGLOBAL. It will run for 24 months.
