AIDGLOBAL, in partnership with the University of Madeira (UMa), has been promoting various training sessions for young people in Porto Santo as part of the "Dialogar e Agir por + Igualdade na R.A.M." project, with the aim of raising their awareness of the issues of poverty and domestic violence and empowering them to become leaders and agents of change.
The meetings resulted in the creation of the Porto Santo Youth Association, with the aim of making the island more dynamic, helping young people to settle and improving their quality of life by promoting sporting and cultural activities, raising awareness of current social issues and holding workshops on issues relevant to young people and the population in general.
On January 21st, the official presentation of the Porto Santo Youth Association will take place in the Passos do Concelho building, where the governing bodies will be presented to the community, as well as the Activities Plan, and everyone is invited.
As well as making the Association known, the young people will also be running a campaign to raise awareness of Domestic Violence, with fun activities for the whole population, the aim of which is not only to raise awareness of the problem that is so prevalent in the Madeira archipelago, but also to make people aware of the tools that currently exist for reporting cases of domestic violence.
The creation of the Association was supported by
the Direção Regional de Juventude da Região Autónoma da Madeira (R.A.M.).
The initiative is part of the
“Dialogar e Agir por + Igualdade na RAM” project – — funded pelo
Programa Cidadãos Ativ@s dos EEA Grants — has the
Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the
Bissaya Barreto Foundation as its Operators and is promoted by
