(Re)thinking about Employability with a view to the inclusion of recently arrived migrant students in Portuguese society is the theme of the session.
As Employability is an issue of significant importance for youth and migrants, AIDGLOBAL promoted a workshop at Iscte-IUL on July 26th to contribute to the training of students from third countries in their integration into the Portuguese labor market.
Through the development of participative methodologies suited to the demands and needs of employers in Portugal, the initiative aimed to support, inform and guide young students toward the different components of professional life to facilitate their adaptation to a working reality different from that of their countries of origin.
During the session, the participants had the opportunity to learn how to write a professional and concise CV, step by step. They learnt how to succinctly describe their skills, preferences and hobbies, using digital platforms for this purpose and to effectively communicate their qualifications and skills to employers who want to know their background.
Acquiring employability skills, adapting to the different professional challenges of a demanding and changing world and addressing the issues of interculturality and multiculturality were integral to preparing migrant students for potential job interviews.
To enrich this meeting, we had the presence of Lais Andrade, Psychologist with specialization in Strategic People Management, who offered her contributions by capacitating the young students for professional insertion. Simulation exercises were also carried out, tests that approximated the reality of the position to which the candidate is applying, so as to master the most important requirements of the interview.
The practice simulation allowed the participants to answer the interviewer's questions in a clear and direct manner, thus demonstrating the techniques learned.
The final evaluation was very positive and the participants were very active and interested in the topic.
“NEAR – NEwly ARrived in a common home” is a European project funded by the European Commission, under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) with the ISMU Foundation as a promoter and as partner entities Tamat, CARDET, and AIDGLOBAL and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. In Portugal, this project is being developed in the city of Lisbon.
