On 26 January, Colégio Quinta dos Girassóis, in Massamé hosted a storytelling session of the story “A Formiga Juju na Cidade das Papaias” voiced by Rita Marques, an AIDGLOBAL volunteer.
In this session, the Mozambican volunteer led the children of the first and second years on a journey full of little adventures through the African continent in search of rain. This led children to reflect on the importance of rain, the harmful effects of pollution and on what they can do to help preserve and improve the environment.
After reflecting on the story, Rita Marques gave her testimony on her volunteer experience in Mozambique which took place last summer in the District of Chibuto. During her time there, she helped organise storytelling sessions in schools, she supported the construction of the school library for Escola Primária 25 de Junho Unidade 4, and helped to delivar Bibliotchovas, Reading Kits and the material sent in AIDGLOBAL’s container. This testimony of her experience in Mozambique captured the attention of the students and peaked their curiosity about world inequalities.
Formiga Juju is a civic movement which seeks to promote reading and creative expression through the stories authored by Cristina Pereira, Walter Sand and Mia Temporário. Its aim is to diffuse the values of Global Citizenship among children and youth. “Formiga Juju na Cidade das Papaias” was its first publication, followed by “A Formiga Juj e o Sapo Karibu”.
