Ecoality project Consortium holds meeting in Hungary and promotes Workshop

Between February 10 and 13, 2026, civil society organizations from 10 different countries in the Consortium and local authorities from the European project "Ecoality – Young People and Local Authorities Together for Climate and Gender Justice!" project, created with the aim of contributing to raising awareness and a sense of shared responsibility among European citizens with regard to individual and collective behavior in the face of the interdependence and intersectionality of ecological crises.
Organized by the Anthropolis Association on the 10th and 11th, with the purpose of taking stock of how the project is progressing as well as planning and organizing upcoming activities, the meeting, promoted by Oxfam Italy, was attended by the 10 partner organizations from the participating countries — ActionAid Hellas (AAH) (Greece), AIDGLOBAL (Portugal), Agenda 21 (Romania), Antropológiai és Közösségi Kutató Egyesület honlapján (Hungary), Loures City Council (Portugal), Centrum Edukacji Obywatelskiej (Center for Citizenship Education (CCE)) (Poland), Forum Za Slobodu Odgoja (Forum for Freedom in Education (FFE)) (Croatia), Institut International des droits de L`Homme et de la Paix (International Institute for Human Rights and Peace (2IDHP)) (France), Rauhan-Kasvatus-Instituutti (Peace Education Institute) (Finland), Région Normadie (France), Südwind (Austria).
 
On the 10th, the first day of the meeting, there was a learning and sharing session on how to improve youth participation for active citizenship, followed by a reflection and evaluation of the results of the awareness campaign “Climate Justice is Gender Justice.” The co-creation of youth engagement strategies for the project's next awareness campaign was also part of the agenda.
 
The following day, lessons learned from the international volunteer camps were shared. In 2025, these camps enabled young Europeans to participate in camps held in São Tomé and Madagascar, with the aim of improving the design of the next two camps, which will take place in Mozambique and Madagascar in 2026. The proceedings ended with an emphasis on the legacy that the “Ecoality” project will leave behind after its completion at the end of the year.
 
The 12th and 13th were filled with the third Network Workshop with Local Authorities, which aimed to bring representatives of civil society organizations and local authorities from 10 countries to participate in the “Ecoality” project. The event provided an opportunity to hear the experiences and opinions of activists, researchers, teachers, and students and to reflect and discuss together the impact of ecofeminist initiatives on community empowerment and opportunities for integrating the ecofeminist perspective into formal and non-formal education.
 
Introductory presentations on the themes of the local authorities network workshop dominated the third day's session, beginning with Maria Angeles de Ramon Ferrando (Director of International Partnerships at INTPA) on the theme "From geopolitics to global citizenship: the European Union and its Territories,“ followed by a presentation by Balázs Szücs (Vice President of the 7th District of Budapest) entitled ”What kind of future do we want?" Mia Diop (Vice President of the Tuscany Region) then presented reflections on youth and justice through “Ecoality,” and finally, Viktória Mihalkó (President of the Anthropolis Association Board) gave a general and introductory analysis of the Activity Plan for the meeting promoted by the AL network.
 
Following the theoretical reflections of the third day, Alexandra Czeglédi, a specialist in Environmental Anthropology, addressed “Ecofeminism: Theory, Practices, and Communities in Global Perspectives,” followed by a panel discussion on “The framework of ecofeminism in field practice,” with experts such as Menta Móra (Ecofeminist and Founder of Ökofem), Júlia Bakó (Representative of the Women's and LGBTQ+ Office of the 8th District of Budapest), and Alexandra Czeglédi (Environmental Anthropology Specialist), who discussed the practical application of these concepts, moderated by Eszter Sárosi (Sustainability Consultant at Greenius). The afternoon began with practical workshop sessions on local authorities networking, coordinated by Eszter Sárosi. The meeting culminated in a guided tour of the cultural heritage of the Jewish Quarter in Budapest.
 
The last day focused on community involvement and the role of educational institutions. The morning began with a presentation by Mónika Kovács, Professor at the Institute of Intercultural Psychology and Education at ELTE University. The final debate featured Anikó Berta (Deputy Director of ELTE Radnóti Secondary School), Kinga Somlói (Fridays for Future activist), and Mónika Kovács, moderated by Eszter Sárosi.
 
The European project “Ecoality,” which aims to promote climate justice and gender equality, is implemented in Portugal by AIDGLOBAL and the Municipality of Loures and is co-financed by the European Commission and Camões - Institute for Cooperation and Language.
