New Formation Actions of the Porto Santo Community School

As part of the project "Escola Comunitária para a Empregabilidade e o Voluntariado”, between April and May 2023, three new trainings were launched that aimed to promote technical, social and personal skills, in particular among people who are unemployed. The themes of the actions were: “How to save in the kitchen and have a healthy diet”, “Pediatric First Aid” and “Personal Finance”.

The workshop “How to save in the kitchen and have a healthy diet” took place on April 22, in the kitchen of the Hotel Praia Dourada, and was led by Chef Rafaela Antunes, who taught participants to make healthy and cheap dishes, such as bulgur salad, gazpacho, couscous and carrot and lentil burgers.

Before starting the cooking practice, Chef Rafaela shared theoretical knowledge that included the interpretation of the food wheel and how to make smart choices in the supermarket.

It was a morning very rich in ideas and that inspired those present to try new flavors and different ways of cooking, without harming the family budget.

Promoted by AIDGLOBAL, the workshop "Pediatric First Aid" took place on May 27, in the Training Room of the Public Administration of Porto Santo, and was conducted by Nurse Eduarda Vieira, who shared her professional experience and her knowledge of the pediatric area.

The 18 participants learned how to react when faced with febrile seizures, burns, bleeding, poisoning and allergic reactions and what essential elements should be in a paediatric first aid bag. They also had the opportunity to practice the degassing maneuver and Basic Life Support procedures in babies and children, an aspect of great relevance for parents and teachers, who constituted the majority of assistants, and which contributed to feeling better able to act, quickly and appropriately, in emergency situations.
It was a very rich day in knowledge, with the promise of a second edition on this same topic.

On May 30th and 31st, the “Personal Finance” workshopwas held in the Public Administration Training Room of Porto Santo, led by Tércio Alves, professional manager and creator of the portfoliocheia.pt blog , a space where he shares investment tips.

In view of the importance of good management of the family budget in order to maximize income, on the first day, stakeholders learned how to control budgets and savings, maximize income and manage debts and credits. On the second and last day, they were trained to make investments, and other issues were also addressed, such as taxes, risks and fraud.

It was a very rich and practical workshop that captivated the participants.

The training actions are part of the project “Escola Comunitária para a Empregabilidade e o Voluntariado", promoted by AIDGLOBAL, in partnership with the Parish Council of the Junta do Porto Santo, with the financing of the Vinci Program for Citizenship (ANA Aeroportos).
