In an open class, relevant topics were covered, including the power of Education for Development and Global Citizenship (EDGC) as well as the EDGC Barometer for Social Justice. Issues on Poverty in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (A.R.M.) were also discussed, with a view to promoting effective actions.
Beatriz Braga, Project Coordinator of the Adventist Association for Development, Resources and Assistance (Adra Portugal), shared insights with her presentation "How to move from theory to practice", making Adra and its axes of intervention known, followed by the differentiation she made between the Organizations that work around the themes of Human Rights and the EDGC, whose project "ED-COMUNICAR: do conhecimento à mobilização" (ED-COMUNICAR: from knowledge to mobilization) was an example to highlight.
Within the scope of “ED-COMUNICAR”, and of which AIDGLOBAL is a partner, Beatriz Braga pointed out that the project aimed to gain greater recognition and visibility of the EDGC, in Portugal, by Development actors and, for this reason, 6 Formative Studies “The Urgency to Read the World”, 6 Infographics, 6 (In)formative Sheets, Videos, Podcasts, Opinion Articles and Webinars were created, in the context of a collection of publications on various themes (Peace, Globalization, Poverty, Global Citizenship, Development and Social Justice) that invite to renew and update the look at realities and neuralgic issues that, being not new, remain as structural challenges of globalized societies, in which we live today. Then, Sofia Lopes, Manager of the AIDGLOBAL project “Dialogar e Agir por + Igualdade na R.A.M.”, presented a Study and Policy Paper dedicated to the theme of Poverty in Higher Education, in the context of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, edited by the Organization and the University of Madeira. This work is expected to contribute to the improvement of public policies.
Sofia Lopes also highlighted other ongoing initiatives, such as the creation of a Youth Association in Porto Santo, the result of meetings that aimed to raise awareness of the importance of Human Rights and Citizenship, benefiting several young people and the "Academy for Human Rights", a campaign that mobilized the participation of 42 students from the University of Madeira, which took place at three different times, namely two sessions held online and one in person, at the Funchal Youth Center, whose objective was to address the theme of Domestic Violence and Poverty, strengthening democratic culture and civic awareness.
The seminar was a space for dialogue and action that brought together UMa students and teachers, in order to enable young people to become active and participatory citizens in the promotion of Human Rights and in the construction of a more democratic, inclusive, fair and egalitarian society.
"Dialogar e Agir por + Igualdade na R.A.M." is promoted by AIDGLOBAL, in partnership with the University of Madeira, and funded by the EEA Grants' ActiveCitizens Program, with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Bissaya Barreto Foundations Operators. The event was organized in close collaboration with the project "ED-COMUNICAR: do conhecimento à mobilização" (Camões, IP).
