Public Petition "More Support for Vulnerable Families and People in Situations of Domestic Violence in the Autonomous Region of Madeira" addressed to the Regional Government of Madeira (R.A.M.)

The initiative comes in the context of the study "Domestic Violence Against Women in the Autonomous Region of Madeira", which lists a number of recommendations, including the creation of autonomy residences – housing for the temporary support of those who are no longer in a situation of danger but do not yet have the overall conditions for independent living. It is hoped that the Autonomy Homes will enable these people to reorganize and readjust their living conditions, away from the abuse of physical and/or psychological force within the family, supported and supervised by Technical Teams.
 

 

The text of the Petition praises the efforts of the Regional Government of Madeira to address this problem, namely all the measures designed and carried out under the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Regional Plans Against Domestic Violence. However, given the seriousness of these phenomena, which occur all too frequently in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (R.A.M.), with figures above the average for the country, it is considered that the respective determinations are insufficient.

The petition demands the need to create more structural resources for the protection and autonomy of people in situations of Domestic Violence, to increase the amounts set aside for housing support, to reduce bureaucracy in the process, and to make more resources available for the complete implementation of the measures set out in the III Regional Plan Against Domestic Violence.
