Active Citizens Program arrives in Porto Santo

Consortium between Francisco de Freitas Branco School and AIDGLOBAL

“From School to the World - Acting, Including, Transforming” is the title of the new Citizenship Education Action Plan that began on September 1, 2019 in Porto Santo, the result of a partnership between AIDGLOBAL and Professor Francisco Freitas Branco Elementary and Secondary School. This Action Plan is addressed to main students from four 8th grade classes (2019/2020) and is oriented to accompany these young people over two school years. Although the focus is on the 3rd cycle, the Plan extends to the whole school and the local community in order to raise awareness and mobilize for the promotion of volunteering and for actions and behaviors consistent with the principles of Human Rights and Sustainable development. In line with the National Citizenship Education Strategy, the Action Plan has as strategic axes the experience of a democratic culture, the curriculum articulation and the interaction with the community.

This initiative at the School results from an application of the Educação para a Cidadania  project managed by the Gonçalo da Silveira Foundation and by the Research Center for Human Development of the Portuguese Catholic University, under the Active Citizens Program, funded by the EEA Grants. The Program is implemented in Portugal by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in consortium with the Bissaya Barreto Foundation.
