"ED-Comunicar - do Conhecimento à Mobilização" (ED-Communicate - from Knowledge to Mobilization) was a project that arised from the need for a greater involvement of the Portuguese population around the issues of Development and Global Citizenship, promoting critical thinking and an active civic participation based on cooperation and solidarity.
The project aimed to demonstrate to the rest of civil society and development actors the contributions and added value of the EDCG (Development Education and Global Citizenship) in the process(s) of social transformation and awareness, with a view to a more democratic, participatory and fair society. For these reasons, 8 NGDOs collaboratively assumed in this action a set of activities guided by the principles of action of the ENED (National Strategy for Development Education), namely coherence, cooperation, co-responsibility, equity, equality, social justice, non-discrimination, participation and solidarity.

The Development Education and Global Citizenship (EDCG) sector is the result of the collaborative work of several entities, most of which are Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), with particular emphasis on Non-Governmental Development Organizations (NGDOs).
As a result of the need for greater involvement of the Portuguese population in issues related to Development and Global Citizenship, promoting critical thinking and active civic participation based on cooperation and solidarity, the project aimed to demonstrate to the rest of civil society and Development actors the contributions and added value of the EDCG in the process(s) of social transformation, in a critical and conscious way, aiming at a more democratic, participative and fair society.
The action of Portuguese NGOs counts as another step in the implementation of measures that are a "prerequisite for achieving a more modern, fair and equitable society, and a truly sustainable development, in full respect of human dignity" (National Report on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, MNE, 2017). And it was, for all this, necessary to go further in the promotion of this critical, and conscious, global solidarity grounded in the promotion of the EDCG.
The "Urgência de Ler o Mundo" – "ED-Comunicar" formative studies is a collection of six Education for Development and Global Citizenship (EDCG) studies. It invites us to renew and update our gaze on neuralgic realities and issues that, although not new, remain structural challenges of the globalized societies in which we live today: Poverty and Inequalities; Social Justice; Development; Interdependencies and Globalization; Global Citizenship and Peace.
Study Nº 1 - A urgência de ler o mundo: Pobreza e Desigualdades
With the aim of increasing the visibility and recognition of Development Education and Global Citizenship (EDCG), the study delves into the themes of Poverty and Inequalities in order to mobilize citizens to act for human and sustainable development. The reader is invited to reflect on the different dimensions around Poverty and Inequalities, with a particular focus on how each individual may have different perceptions of the phenomena.
Study Nº 2 - A urgência de ler o mundo: Justiça Social
(February, 2023)
The study reflects the path of the EDCG and is made available to citizens who seek to go beyond everyday reflections that make us question what role each of us has in society and in the world.
The study starts from the perspective that the acceleration of the globalization phenomenon presses for an urgent need to incorporate the principle of interdependence as a literacy tool for everyone, now and in the future.
The study aims to (re)visit what we understand by development, what contents and meanings characterize it and how it defines the identity of the educational approach: DE - Development Education. It is also divided into Development Cooperation and Humanitarian and Emergency Aid.
(June, 2023)
The study aims to provide a current view of Global Citizenship Education (GCE), critically reflecting on its role in the socio-cultural and economic development of societies. It is a dynamic concept that has evolved in line with the transformations of societies and the struggle of different peoples and social groups for freedoms, rights and autonomy, as well as promoting inclusive, equitable and quality education.
