In 2022, Migrations, NEAR, Portugal,

Beneficiaries of the "NEAR" project participated at the Galinheira Fair

Last Sunday, December 4, another successful initiative took place in the Galinheiras neighborhood, the sale of vegetables from the Community Garden, created by seven refugees and asylum seekers, as part of the project “NEAR – NEwly ARrived in a common home”.

This activity arises in order to facilitate its integration in the Galinheiras neighborhood that, since October, has participated in training, related to the creation and maintenance of gardens.

Promoted by AIDGLOBAL, with the support of the Centro Paroquial da Charneca-Galinheiras, it was an opportunity to make known the work that has been carried out by this target audience since October of the current year.

During the morning, between 8 am and 3 pm, the trainees, in addition to presenting to visitors to Feira das Galinheiras the most varied vegetables, also exhibited salt and aromatized olive oil, hand-painted vases and aromatic herbs, in a stand that stood out from the others for its presentation. Decorated with traditional African cloths and posters that exposed the origin of these organic products, produced in the neighborhood and made by hands of the world — Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Ghana and Congo – this point of sale did not go unnoticed, but was also a fundamental space for the beneficiaries to practice the Portuguese Language, through dialogue and interaction with customers.

This is an agricultural initiative, intended to give each beneficiary a sense of belonging, with a view to their full integration into the host country.
