The "Educate to Cooperate" project has reached Porto Santo and Madeira

The initiative is part of the 600th Anniversary of the Discovery of the islands of Porto Santo and Madeira


 On the 1st of July, AIDGLOBAL began the Educate to Cooperate - Porto Santo e Madeira project, which will take place in the Madeira Archipelago until the 30th of June,  2020.

The present project continues AIDGLOBAL's previous initiative Educate to Cooperate,which began in 2006. It is a Global Citizenship Education project in line with the guiding principles from the National Strategy for Education for Development (NSDES).

The kick-off began with planification meetings on the 26th and 27th of July with the project's partners; Porto Santo’s municipality, the Regional Directorate for Public Administration, and Susana Damasceno,President of AIDGLOBAL. On the 27th July, the project was also introduced to the Primary and Secondary School Professor Dr. Francisco de Freitas Branco, where some of the activities will take place.

The project Educate to Cooperate: Porto Santo and Madeira aims to promote Global Citizenship in the autonomous region of Madeira, deconstructing prejudices, and promoting a process of reflection on cooperation, social justice and sustainability at a local and global level.

This project intends to sensitize and mobilize children, youth, adults and Civil Society Organizations of the islands of Porto Santo and Madeira around the following themes ; Sustainable Development, Cooperation between Peoples and Cultures, and Human Rights. It intends to accomplish this through; cinema, gatherings, projects, training and the construction of resources that link the History of the Discoveries to Global Citizenship.

The initiative is part of the 600th anniversary to commemorate the discovery of Porto Santo and Madeira.

The project Educate to Cooperate: Porto Santo and Madeira is promoted by AIDGLOBAL (Action and Integration for Global Development) and co-financed by Camões (Cooperation and Language Institute , I.P.), and partners: the Porto Santo Municipal Council, the Porto Santo Regional Directorate for Public Administration, and the Madeira Teachers' Union.
