Educadores em Movimento - Phase 2

With the project "Educadores em Movimento - Uma Educação Itinerante para a Primeira Infância - Fase 2" (Educators in Motion - An Itinerant Education for Early Childhood - Phase 2) it is intend that Itinerant Education for Early Childhood (EII) services, previously supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation between 2018 and 2022, in the 5 communities involved, in terms of educational quality, school administration and supervision.

The Itinerant Education for Early Childhood (EII) services are aimed at pre-school children, mostly between 3 and 6 years old, developed daily, outdoors, based on learning through Nature and the use of Bibliotchova, a traveling library with bilingual books, games and toys, promoted by "Educators in Motion", women from the communities previously trained.

It is expected that the "Educators on the Move" identify and refer, among the children of the Community Schools, cases of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and situations of discrimination and violence.

The Itinerant Education for Early Childhood (EII) services are based on a community management model, promoting capacity building and creating pedagogical resources from abundant and local materials.

The impact is on the child's socio-emotional and cognitive development and greater social inclusion.

  • Contribute to the integral and harmonious development of pre-school children in the District of Chibuto, Mozambique, through the promotion of Early Childhood Education (EI).
  • Strengthen and autonomize 6 Community Schools in terms of didactic-pedagogical skills, school administration and supervision, in the District of Chibuto.
  • Strengthen the services provided in the area of Itinerant Early Childhood Education (EII) in the 5 communities where the 6 schools created by the project are implemented: Bairro 25 de Junho (Unit 2 and Unit 4), Malehice, Chiconelane, Maivene and Chaimite.

WHY
?

According to the Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) report of April 2019, there are about 15 million people in Mozambique of school age - from pre-primary to university. About 19% of children are under 5 years old, in preschool age. There is still a low perception of mothers, fathers and the community about the importance of EPE, high female illiteracy and insufficient health and citizenship promotion initiatives by the authorities targeting preschool children.

Rural communities in Chibuto District, Mozambique, have little or almost no access to services, knowledge, resources and tools that ensure the development of preschool children's skills. The little public or private investment in Education, in particular in Pre-school Education (EPE), despite the published legislation (law nº18/2018 and decree-law nº79/2019).

The proposal presented by the "Educadores em Movimento" project is in itself a response to increase the educational offer in the area of Pre-School and consequent improvement of the educational and training process of children, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 - Quality Education.
